Key Notes

  • Zilliqa faced a network outage on January 15, the third in weeks.
  • Protocol developers deployed a quick fix and the network is back online again.
  • The community is anticipating Zilliqa 2.0, billed to change network functionalities.

Zilliqa, a public blockchain network designed to tackle scalability issues, has commenced operations after experiencing an outage caused by synchronization issues with Look-up nodes. This incident is the third outage the blockchain has faced in just 4 weeks, raising concerns among investors.

Zilliqa Completes Network Recovery after Outage

On January 15, Zilliqa announced halting transactions due to recent issues with synchronizing Look-up nodes. Notably, the look-up nodes, essential for transaction validation and network support, failed to synchronize, preventing transactions from reaching the blockchain.

The team apologized for the inconvenience and promised users a swift resolution. In its latest announcement, Zilliqa said the network recovery is complete, and the mainnet is now fully operational. They thanked users for their support and said they could resume network transactions.

Meanwhile, the recent network disruption follows a series of technical challenges for Zilliqa. In September, the Zilliqa mainnet faced critical network bugs, which resulted in a temporary halt in block production.

Simultaneously, several crypto community members reported difficulties accessing their funds on Zilliqa’s native browser wallet, ZilPay. Just two days before these incidents, some community members also voiced concerns regarding the Zil chain issue. In response to the investors’ concerns, developers announced intentions to introduce what they described as a “permanent fix.”

The September Zilliqa network disruptions occurred shortly after a Zilliqa 2.0 upgrade,  sparking concerns about the reliability of the network’s infrastructure. Zilliqa, however, assured the community that the persistent network issues had nothing to do with the Zilliqa 2.0 upgrade. This upgrade aims to prioritize speed and cross-chain compatibility.

Still, many community members have expressed concerns regarding Zilliqa’s persistent downtime. One user even cautioned that potential customers may lose faith in Zilliqa’s reliability.

Another user lamented:

“Horrible timing guys. But hope all gets resolved asap.”

Even though developers have consistently assured users of the network’s safety, these recurring problems point to inherent challenges in maintaining stability.

Zilliqa 2.0 Upgrade to Launch in Q1 2025

Zilliqa plans to transition into Zilliqa 2.0 by the first quarter (Q1) of this year. Zilliqa 2.0 represents a better and sleeker version of the blockchain network. Specifically, Zilliqa 2.0 will permit seamless interaction with EVM-compatible blockchains, allowing for greater multichain applications. The update is also designed to facilitate easy adoption of Web3 protocols via scalable smart contracts.

Furthermore, the release of Zilliqa 2.0 will have a long-term impact on the widespread adoption of the ZIL token. At the time of writing, ZIL is trading at $0.02204, demonstrating a 3.8% increase in the last 24 hours.

The journey to completely move from the older version is already on course with the recent launch of the Aventurine Proto-mainnet. This mainnet encourages the community, including delegators and validators, to explore the upcoming features.
