According to the press release, the nationwide rollout of the TRUTH Social app will happen in the first quarter of 2022.
TRUTH Social, according to Donald Trump, will be a rival to the existing Big Tech firms that he believes are silencing opposing voices. The app will be the first of the projects launched by Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG). As per reports, the company would soon go public and will be listed on the Nasdaq following a merger with Digital World Acquisition Group. Liz Harrington, Trump’s spokeswoman, made an announcement on Twitter confirming the total transaction value amounting to $1.7 billion. The press release was self-explanatory with respect to the goals and objectives of this new app.
The TRUTH Social app is supposed to be an alternative to the liberal media consortium as Trump believes the latter to have been suppressing conservative voices. The project had been hinted at for several months by Trump and his team and is therefore not a total surprise. However, to stand up to the tech giants seems implausible and might convert this app into a popular free speech platform.
This overtly politicized social media app is available for pre-order on the Apple Store. An early/beta version of the app will be accessible next month for guests listed through an invite. According to the press release, the nationwide rollout of the TRUTH Social app will happen in the first quarter of 2022.
Additionally, the TMTG for which Trump serves as the chairman also has plans to unveil a subscription video-on-demand service. It would serve as a platform for non-woke entertainment options comprising programs, podcasts, news, etc. Personal social media apps seem to have been in vogue these days as months earlier, Trump’s former aide Jason Miller had launched GETTR, his version of a social media company. However, with the existing platforms like Twitter, Facebook being open platforms for people of all ages and conversations encompassing all voices, these politicized social media apps will more or less function like opinion portals with like-minded people.
Social media is no stranger to the controversies of America’s former President. Since the time of Trump’s presidency, the social media giants have been under constant pressure to ban him for his incendiary posts. While some were labelled inflammatory, others were downright misleading or supporting false theories like when Trump stated Covid to be less lethal than the flu. Posts like these were deleted by social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. However, the final straw was Trump’s speech that led to the January riots. Trump had outright rejected the election results and had made allegations of electoral fraud, which were later discovered to be baseless.
Trump has always preferred social media as his favorite means of communication with the citizens. With his public rallies and open criticism of the social media giants, it seems impossible for the social media platforms to allow him back again. The former President, with his strong presence and hold over the Republican Party, has time and again hinted at fighting the 2024 Presidential elections in the US.
