Telegram Adds Third-Party Verification, Search Filters, NFTs Gifts, and More

Telegram enhances platform security with decentralized verification system and expands user features through NFT gift upgrades and advanced search capabilities.

Telegram rolled out its first major update of 2025, introducing third-party account verification, enhanced search capabilities, and NFT-upgradeable gifts, bolstering both platform security and user experience.

A standout update involves adopting a decentralized approach to account verification. Verified accounts now showcase unique logos instead of blue checkmarks. Trusted third-party entities, such as educational bodies and regulators, can verify accounts, aiming to prevent scams and curb misinformation.

“This decentralized platform for additional verification will help prevent scams and reduce misinformation — with a unique proactive solution that sets a new safety standard for social platforms,” Telegram said in the blog.

Applicants seeking verification must undergo a review process and submit forms for approval. Approved entities can display organizational logos on verified profiles. Through Telegram’s Bot API, organizations gain the ability to assign or revoke verification, echoing methods used by X (formerly Twitter).

Telegram Gifts Get an NFT Upgrade

Users can now transform Telegram gifts into NFTs using Telegram Stars. These digital collectibles feature custom backgrounds and icons, ranging from festive Santa Hats to Homemade Cakes.

“Gifts you receive on Telegram are now able to be upgraded to collectibles. Collectible gifts have special attributes and can be transferred to other users or auctioned on NFT marketplaces,” Telegram said.

In order to facilitate the process, users need a TON crypto wallet, and Telegram charges a fee to cover blockchain transaction costs. This feature aligns with Telegram’s cryptocurrency-based monetization efforts. Previously, the app enabled payments for games and supported mini-apps, carving a niche in the digital economy.

The new update also includes emoji reactions for service messages, making group interactions more dynamic. Users can now respond instantly to activities like someone joining a group or sending a gift, enriching communication with just a tap.

Telegram Refines Core Functionality

Telegram has also focused on refining its core functionality. New message search filters make navigating private chats, group conversations, and channels more seamless. Additionally, a built-in QR code scanner has been integrated into Telegram’s camera, making it easier for users to access links directly from the app.

The update arrives after a landmark year for Telegram. In 2024, the company reached profitability, bolstered by its premium subscriptions, privacy-conscious advertising, and sales of Telegram Stars. This financial turnaround underscores the app’s ability to innovate while remaining user-focused.

With these bold changes, Telegram is not just keeping up with the competition but setting new benchmarks for what a social platform can achieve. As it marches forward, the app’s blend of creativity and practicality continues to captivate its ever-growing user base.
