Pixels is now considering launching additional games within its universe. Barwikowski revealed that “fun stuff” is coming to the platform.

Popular Web3 game developer Pixels is exploring the possibility of expanding its franchise to attract more players to the industry. According to a recent report from Decrypt, citing an interview with the company’s founder Luke Barwikowski, the platform is collaborating with other game developers to introduce more games in the Pixels universe following the success of its first chapter.

If launched, these games could potentially be integrated into Telegram, one of the leading social media platforms with over 900 million users worldwide.

There Is Fun Stuff Coming

Pixels took the crypto industry by storm last year when it rolled out the games and later migrated to the popular Ethereum-based gaming platform Ronin Network towards the end of 2023.

The hype and buzz surrounding the free-to-play games continued in 2024 when the platform launched its native crypto known as PIXEL in February. The token made its way to major crypto exchanges such as Binance, KuCoin, and Gate.io.

Within a few days of the launch, PIXEL hit $1.2 billion in trading volume across the exchanges. The newly launched token flipped old cryptocurrencies such as Avalanche (AVAX) and Dogecoin (DOGE) to become one of the “most actively traded digital assets” during this period.

In May 2024, the Ronin-based game reached the one million daily active players milestone. Barwikowski said at that time that the blockchain video game has surpassed “all other Web3 games”.

Buoyed by this success, Pixels is now considering launching additional games within its universe. Barwikowski revealed that “fun stuff” is coming to the platform.

“There’s some fun stuff coming. And that may include a Telegram-based game, too. We’re looking at maybe kicking off another one on Telegram. That’s maybe some alpha—but that’s like a side experiment. Telegram’s an interesting ecosystem… we might dip our toes there,” he said.

Expansion Plans and Game Development

The free-to-play game is working with external developers outside the crypto economy to explore the upcoming game franchise and other business expansions.

The Pixel co-founder said that he and the company’s internal team will establish the overall vision and strategy for the upcoming games. After defining the high-level direction, the team will delegate the actual development work to external studios which will be responsible for the creation of the games.

Once the games are fully developed by the external studio, the Pixels team will take over and incorporate blockchain elements into them.

Barwikowski said the team will also work on user acquisition elements before finally debuting the games to the public.

Development of Mobile Apps

He also noted that whether or not the games eventually makes it to Telegram he is determined to expand their intellectual property (IP) outside the Ronin Network.

According to him, Pixels is currently developing a comprehensive lore bible internally for its growing user base. This lore bible will lay the foundation for future apps and experiments.

“This will form the basis for our other IP expansion initiatives,” Barwikowski explained. “Currently, we’re also developing several mobile apps, which will be our next distribution focus. We plan to innovate with incentivized downloads, exploring play-to-earn models on iOS and Android.”
