ChatGPT creator OpenAI on Tuesday announced the launch of an Android version of the AI-powered chatbot. The Microsoft-backed startup debuted its iOS app in May, making ChatGPT available outside of the OpenAI website for the first time since its launch in late November last year.

At launch, the Android app was available in the US, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil. It is expected to roll out to more locations over the next week. The addition of the Android app to the Google Play store comes on the heels of reports by Sensor Tower and SimilarWeb showing drops in ChatGPT web traffic and app installations in the month of June.

The app allows users to sync their data across devices and export their chat data to a viewable HTML file. With its voice input feature, users can ask the chatbox questions on the go. Using the app’s settings menu, users are also able to clear chat history, delete their account and choose their default language and color scheme.

Some of the most popular uses for the app beyond answering basic questions that have been noted so far include day-planning, creating guides and summaries, providing creatives and artists inspiration for their work, and creating drafts of various types of emails, documentation, or presentations. It is important to note that some information provided by the chatbot might be inaccurate as it is trained using internet data.

Since the launch of ChatGPT, there has been a proliferation in the number of AI tools. On a worldwide scale, the race for the major AI tool is being led by OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and San Francisco-based AI safety and research company Anthropic. The competition has led to innovative ways to drive adoption including a campaign aimed at getting consumers to incorporate generative AI into their daily lives. Industry leaders are also working on both developing more chatbot apps and rolling out new features such as visual search.

Following the quick adoption since the launch of ChatGPT last November, Microsoft went on to increase its investment in OpenAI by $10 billion earlier this year. OpenAI also closed a $300 million share sale at a $27-$29 billion valuation in April with investment from VC firms such as Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive, and K2 Global.
