Richard Petty Motorsport, a major participant in the NASCAR Cup Series, has secured a partnership with Cash App and Bitcoin via its pilot Bubba Wallace.

Cash App has just announced its first partnership with a professional sports team, as well as its first traditional athletic sponsorship with Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM). The partnership was confirmed in a tweet by Jack Dorsey, Twitter CEO and owner of Square. The deal with Richard Petty Motorsports will see Square’s Cash App as the primary sponsor of the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, piloted by Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr., for five events. Cash App will also be an associate partner throughout the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series campaign.

As part of the agreement, the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE will carry the Cash App brand as the primary partner in the NASCAR Cup Series at the Texas Motor Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway, Bristol Motor Speedway, and Kansas Speedway. Cash App will also be prominent on Wallace’s custom green and white checkered suit, crew apparel and on the Richard Petty Motorsports pit box. The racing car will also have prominent Bitcoin (BTC) logos.

The partnership has generated a lot of mixed comments. According to Garrett McManus, artistic development lead for Cash App, “Bubba Wallace is a once-in-a-generation talent and we are proud to partner with Richard Petty Motorsports to usher in this new era of racing, we stand with Bubba and we are thrilled to team up on the next part of his journey.”

While Reddit user degentrader69 believes the partnership could spike bullish run in BTC price, twitter user @MungoAnd supposes the deal will have been better with a less controversial NASCAR rider.

Bubba Wallace to Be Supported by Cash App

Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE for Richard Petty Motorsports. Previously, Wallace was signed as a development driver for Joe Gibbs Racing where Wallace competed in the Camping World Truck Series, driving the No. 54 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports. He also raced in the Xfinity Series, driving the No. 6 Ford Mustang of Roush Fenway Racing, from 2015 to mid-2017. Wallace is noted for being one of the most successful African American drivers in the history of NASCAR.

Bubba Wallace has been a major activist championing the cause of black people. Wallace began to speak out about the abuse of African Americans by the police in May 2020, following the killing of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis, becoming the face of stock car racing’s involvement in the Black Lives Matter movement.

On June 8, 2020, he called on NASCAR to prohibit displays of the Confederate battle flag at NASCAR races. In 2015, after the publication of photographs showing the white man who killed nine black churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina, posing with the flag, the organization began asking fans not to display the flag at its races. However, many white fans in the South continued to hoist the Confederate flag at races. On June 10, 2020, NASCAR officially banned the display of the flag at its events.

Part of the statement of Richard Petty Motorsport CEO Brian Moffitt showed solidarity. “As a team, we will continue to carry our message of compassion, love and understanding,” said he.
