The wildfires have claimed at least 25 lives, destroyed over 12,000 structures, and forced mass evacuations.

In response to the devastating wildfires that have ravaged Los Angeles since January 7, Crypto.com has announced a donation of $1 million to support relief efforts.

According to an announcement on Thursday, the funds will be distributed among the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, and Los Angeles Police Foundation. This contribution aims to equip firefighters and first responders with essential gear and resources necessary for current and future disaster responses.

The Scale of Destruction

The wildfires, which began in Pacific Palisades, have resulted in at least 25 fatalities and the destruction of over 12,000 structures, including homes and businesses. According to reports, the Palisades Fire alone has consumed more than 23,000 acres, leading to the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of residents.

Matt David, President of North America and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Crypto.com, expressed solidarity with the affected communities, stating,

“Having lived in Los Angeles for nearly a decade and started my family there, the City is near and dear to my heart personally. While there is a long road ahead, we are committed to working with our partners and the community to do whatever we can to support those in need,” he said.

Crypto.com’s initiative aligns with contributions from other major corporations. The Walt Disney Company has pledged $15 million to Los Angeles area fire relief and rebuilding efforts.

Similarly, Google is providing $15 million in aid, including fire details on Google Maps and assistance with housing searches. Other companies such as Amazon have committed $10 million to the cause, offering supplies and food donations.

Comcast NBCUniversal is contributing $10 million, and Netflix is donating $10 million while assisting employees. Snap has disbursed $5 million in immediate aid, and Walmart, along with Sam’s Club, is providing $2.5 million in cash, food, water, and other essentials, including a Mobile Relief Kitchen serving free meals.

Donation Bins to be Placed at Strategic Places

In addition to financial contributions, Crypto.com said that local sports teams and organizations are actively participating in relief efforts. Los Angeles Lakers have organized donation drives during games and at their training center, collecting essential items for those affected.

According to an announcement, donation bins will be placed outside Crypto.com Arena at the Figueroa, Kobe Bryant, and Star Plaza entrances. Collections will start 1.5 hours before tipoff on game nights on January 13, 15, and 27 and will remain open until halftime.

Similarly, the LA Kings’ Toyota Sports Performance Center is serving as a supply collection site in support of the YMCA’s relief initiatives.
